I love listening to a particular voice in the wider “christian” world, even though I can't agree with his perspective on some fundamental orthodox christian theology, I can hear his search and his perspective and I am challenged to dig deeper into the truths of the story of God and His love for us.
I love his thought - Christ in the ordinary, Jesus in the mundane, or in the way you make breakfast for your family. Another great voice for such concepts was mother Teresa. She held more of the Roman Catholic theology which treats the least as Christ so that her ministry to the least was her ministering to Jesus - profound. To the beggar dying or the disabled, or the poor or the orphan. Amazing simple gospel truth. Not flashing lights or smoke and mirrors. Not the who's who in the zoo, just ordinary simple love that is in itself, profound to all of heavens hosts.
Reflecting on this during this afternoon on the deck looking out at the trees I was asking the question - What am I passionate about then?
Here are some of my thoughts....
Since I was a little boy I always loved and wanted certain things...
- To love God
- To take care of people
- To preach about God
- To worship-sing and play
- To pray
Life in this world has a way of knocking you around and tries to reshape you into its image. But I was firstly made in His image- the image of God. So back to my default setting then.
I am passionate about truth, though it stares me down and challenges me to the core and demands a response from me.
I am passionate about mercy - love for the down trodden, exiled, widow, orphan, downcast, bullied, underdog.
I am passionate about empathy (understanding and entering into anothers feelings) knowing the journey intimately and loving those individuals well, just as Jesus did - tested in all points as we were yet without sin. A merciful and faithful high priest being touched with the feelings of our affirmatives . The ultimate expression of empathy entering into our world among us (Emmanuel) and in so doing redeemed (bought and rescued) us through his love. One mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. Jesus you are the bom.
I am passionate about worship, music and song. It releases the heart of Jesus over humanity and brings the truth of God that liberates our bonds and frees us to express deep love and adoration towards Him who loved us first - while we were aliens and strangers - on a dark destructive pathway of self-indulgent selfishness. Right there He found us, met us, loved us, redeemed us and set us upright again.
So here I am. I know this then...
I am Loved - Completely
I am Chosen - He Looked out and ran towards me
I am Forgiven - I can forgive myself
I am Valuable - It cost Him everything for me
I am Whole - As I rest in His love
I am free - Just to be who He created me to be
I am Located - In a family of believers worldwide
I am Loyal - To this lover of my soul
I am Given - Freedom to fail, succeed, overcome, live, breathe, dance, love, celebrate, conquer every fear and doubt about myself and my future
So I can turn the page from today to tomorrow with confidence - knowing He is already there. Jesus, You are already in my future. I’ll meet you there tomorrow and everyday until glory tears the veil and I'm received into your everlasting arms.
